It’s Thanksgiving Day. What did you expect? Here’s how we rate players.
5 stars: Out of this world performance. This is a difficult rating to achieve and is reserved for only the most impressive or impactful performances.
4.5 stars: Very strong performance, packed stat sheet, undeniable intangibles provided.
4 stars: Strong performance that falls short of the above standards.
3.5 stars: Above average performance, perhaps excelling in one category or aspect of the game.
3 stars: Average performance. It could also be a very strong game in one aspect but a very poor game in another, such as 15 points but seven turnovers. It could also be that the player was playing, doing his job, but not doing anything spectacular.
2 stars: Below average performance, or we simply have higher expectations for the player on this particular night.
1 Star: Rare, but if the player stinks in all aspects.
Memorial No Star: Named after a former KU walk-on or obscure player and is awarded to a player(s) who did not have enough playing time to contribute or whose performance is otherwise unworthy of the award.
5 stars: Thanksgiving turkey
If we’re being honest, turkey is rarely a five-star meat. But the fourth Thursday in November? You better believe it. And dark meat is way better than white meat, and if you disagree, well, it’s the holidays, so I’ll just say “you do.”
No one was a five-star in this disaster for Kansas.
4.5 stars: Istanbul, Turkey
East meets West in this one city that spans two continents. And if you go there. You must visit Hagia Sofia, one of the most amazing indoor spaces in the world.
Jalen Wilson continues to be key for KU. He forced Kansas to close as Wisconsin regained the lead and scored many of his 29 in that stretch. Also finished with 14 boards.
4 stars: Bowling and Turkey
Three strikes in a row. It’s hard to achieve, but when you do, you feel like royalty. Plus, there’s usually an animated turkey on the screen so the whole bowling alley can see how awesome you are.
Kevin McCullar started the game shooting like he had never seen a basketball but man did he make a basket when it counted game tied at three to send this one to OT. The Texas Tech transfer finished with 18 points and nine rebounds.
3.5 stars: Calling someone a turkey
I feel like this is a very underrated insult. “Only a turkey would choose white meat over dark meat.” See what I did there?
Kansas stunk when Dajuan Harris sat with terrible problems. Despite his freak turnover that nearly cost KU the game, it’s easy to see how important he is.
That ridiculous game-winning basket when it never even came out of the air showed amazing timing Bobby Pettiford. It was his only shot attempt of the game and his heroics saw him move up the rankings.
3 stars: Jive Turkey
It used to be an insult, but now most people associate it Jefferson which is one of the best TV shows of the 70s. So the wish that it is a perfect three stars.
Zach Clemence he didn’t make the best decisions by dropping that many threes (he was 0-5), but his timing was right on the last miss. Shoot it later and there’s no time left for anything to happen.
Gradey Dick he hit three 3-pointers in the first half and was on pace for a nice game and then went zero in the second and sat on the bench for long stretches.
KJ Adams he couldn’t match Wisconsin’s size, but he did manage eight points, including his first two free throws of the season.
2 stars: Cold turkey
This just has to be one of the hardest things in the world and I feel for people who are addicted or trying to quit. Be strong.
It wasn’t Joseph Yesufuit’s day.
1 star: Turkey Bacon
Why even bother.
No one has achieved turkey bacon status.
